Visiting Author Pays It Forward With Independence Students

Sergio Troncoso

Sergio Troncosowrites books dealing with the communities we belong to and the borders that surround us. Every summer he crosses his own borders from his home in New York to teach creative writing to local high schoolers, at the George Caleb Bingham Academy for the Arts.

On Wednesday's Up To Date we talk to the award-winning author and a student of the Bingham Academy about giving back to the community through teaching the art of writing.

  • Sergio Troncoso is the author of five books and a Fulbright award winner. He lives in New York and teaches at the Yale Writers Conference.
  • Ashton Harris is a current writing student at the George Caleb Bingham Aacademy for the Arts.

Event Info: Sergio Troncoso will read alongside Maril Crabtree and Linda Rodriguez, Saturday, June 28 at 7:00 pm at the Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave, KCMO.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
