It's not you — it's us. 😰 The broadcast and stream for both KCUR 89.3 and 91.9 Classical KC are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Our programming will sound different as we troubleshoot. Please bear with us as we work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

War Photography: The Frontline And The Homefront

When heading into a war zone, not many choose a camera over a rifle. This edition of Up To Date explores the lives of two war photographers who covered conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in the States.

Guests:

  • Ashley Gilbertson is the author of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: A Photographer's Chronicle of the Iraq War. He examines the bedrooms of fallen American soldiers in the photo-series "Bedrooms of the Fallen".
  • Lynsey Addario contributes to The New York TimesTime Magazine, and National Geographic. Her new book is It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War

To hear more from Ashley Gilbertson, he will present his photo-series Bedrooms of the Fallen at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Auditorium at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 30th.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
