Seg. 1: Domestic Violence | Seg. 2: "An Extraordinary Universe"

Segment 1: Deadly domestic violence cases reached a twenty-year high in Johnson County, Kansas.

SafeHome is the only service in Johnson County that provides shelter for women and their children escaping domestic violence. A SafeHome director and a lawyer from the district attorney's office spoke of the lack of facilities to house women and children, the first steps victims of domestice violence can take in leaving abusive conditions and what to do if you suspect someone you know is in a dangerous situation.

  • Desiree Long, director of grants, quality assurance and housing for SafeHome
  • Megan Ahsens, senior Johnson County assistant district attorney, domestic violence unit

Segment 2, beginning at 24:54: A mind-bending journey through the weirdest, most illuminating facts of our universe.

You age faster on a building's top floor than its ground floor. Helium is the only substance that can flow uphill in its liquid form. These are just two examples science writer Marcus Chown uses to explain the complexities of our universe. You won't believe what the juvenile sea squirt does!
