Seg. 1: Media And The Midwest | Seg. 2: Retirement Living Options

Segment 1: A memo from journalists in the Midwest: Stop calling us flyover country

A recent blog by Peggy Lowe offered advice to coastal media outlets who continually use clichés when covering life and culture in states like Iowa, Missouri and Oklahoma. The article struck a cord with other regional journalists and they agree, there's a few things fellow reporters living elsewhere should know. Not everyone in the Midwest is a farmer, try a Mexican restaurant instead of a diner for local opinions, and journalists here are happy to help beyond just giving you their sources.

Segment 2, beginning at 23:30: Advice for deciding where you live when your working years are done.

There are a number of options when it comes to living arrangements in retirement.  Aging in place, a continuing care community, even moving in with adult children are all options but no matter the choice, it's a good idea to start planning before your last day of work. The Smart Money Experts walked through what these various selections entail so you know the factors to consider.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
