Kansas City, MO – The pitching of Kansas City Royals starter Zach Greinke has become the biggest story in baseball this month. Greinke is featured on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" magazine this week, the first time a Royals player has graced the cover since 1993. When Greinke took the mound last night, the home crowd anticipated history. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.

The Royals wrap up their four-game series against the Blue Jays Thursday afternoon.

Sports have an economic and social impact on our community and, as a sports reporter, I go beyond the scores and statistics. I also bring the human element to the sports figures who have a hand in shaping the future of not only their respective teams but our town. Reach me at gregechlin@aol.com.
