The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that general manager Scott Pioli is no longer with the football team.
“After several productive conversations, we mad the difficult decision to part way with Scott Pioli and allow him to pursue other opportunities,” said Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt in a written statement.
The Chiefs say the departure was a mutual agreement.
Pioli thanked the organization in a statement and apologized for the team’s record.
“The bottom line is that I did not accomplish all of what I set out to do. To the Hunt family – to the great fans of the Kansas City Chiefs – to the players, all employees and alumni, I truly apologize for not getting the job done,” said Pioli.
The 47-year-old Pioli was named Chiefs General Manager in January 2009. During Pioli’s tenure with the Chiefs, the team earned its first division title and home playoff appearance since 2003. Piolis also earned NFL Executive of the Year honors from national media outlets in 2010.
