CEASE will try again to convince Kansas lawmakers to ban smoking at the four state-owned casinos.

Missouri has some of the highest rates of tobacco usage in the country, the lowest cigarette tax and some of the most lax smoking policies. Some rural health departments and activists are pushing their own policies to change those statistics.

Gambling industry lobbyists say a bipartisan bill that would prohibit smoking in Kansas casinos would drive customers away.

Citing the dangers of secondhand smoke, four high school students proposed an ordinance banning adults from using nicotine products, marijuana and vape pens in cars and public transportation where minors are present.
