Emanuel Cleaver Joins MO's Fifth District Congressional Race

By Frank Morris

Kansas City, MO – Former Mayor Emanuel Cleaver has entered an increasingly contentious Democratic Primary in the race to represent Missouri's Fifth District in congress. Cleaver says he wants a chance to address unemployment, education funding, and what he sees as an increasingly unfair federal tax code. Cleaver enters the race with name recognition dwarfing the other candidates, but behind in fund raising. Cleaver served as host of KCUR's Under the Clock, but is no longer affiliated with the station.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.

Your support has always made KCUR's work possible — from reporting that keeps officials accountable, to storytelling to connects our community. Help ensure the future of local journalism.
