Keeping Holidays Traditional

By Ben Embry

Kansas City, MO – Back in the 1950s when Missouri Rep. Mike Cunningham was growing up, he says holidays weren't just another day of the week. They were special days - a time for family and friends. But things have changed, he says, and he wants to do something about it.

Concerned by what he considers to be the growing devaluation of holidays, the Missouri Republican has introduced a bill that seeks to protect these special days and mandate how they are to be referred to by public agencies. In a conversation with KCUR's Ben Embry, Cunningham sheds light on his bill and how the so-called War on Christmas influenced his proposal.
