KC CURRENTS 4-2-06

By Delores Jones and Sylvia Maria Gross

Kansas City, MO – Jackson County considers a sales tax to fund renovations at Truman Sports Complex. Civil rights and business organizations (with the exception of the Black Chamber of Commerce) support the tax, after the signing of a minority participation agreement. Some Independence residents want seven schools to secede from the KC-MO school district. TV host Iyanla Vanzant warms up for UMKC's Black Women Leaders conference; hear also from conference chair Olivia Dorsey. Plus, local Latinos weigh in on immigration reform (Martha Ramirez and Carlos Rodriguez), and they don't all agree.
