Charlotte Street Foundation Wins Warhol Grant

By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – The Charlotte Street Foundation recently announced it's the recipient of a two year grant of $30,000 a year from the New York based Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Director David Hughes says the grant will provide ongoing support for the Urban Culture Project, which transforms empty storefronts in downtown Kansas City into venues for art, performance, and studio residencies.

Hughes: So with these additional funds, it will allow us to activate new spaces that we're looking around for, but most importantly...both for the creative community and the general public.

On the third Friday of each month, the Urban Culture Project hosts a Third Friday art event, with public openings at each of its sites in downtown Kansas City.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
