Johnson County Considers Public Art Program

By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – The Johnson County Board of Commissioners this morning will consider establishing a public arts program. KCUR's Laura Spencer reports.

A proposal under consideration since February, the Johnson County Public Art Program calls for one percent of the cost of capital construction and renovation projects over a million dollars to be set aside for public art. Commissioners today are expected to determine if road and bridge work would also be included in the program. If approved, a seven to nine member Public Arts Commission would form panels of arts experts to identify sites, screen arts projects, and recommend selections to the commissioners who would then have final approval.
