Kansas City, MO – Dr. Walter R. Peterson died on December 20th. Dr.W.R. as many called him, was a surgeon and one of the guiding forces behind the creation of the Doctors' Clinic, a multispecialty health center at 25th and Brooklyn. It was one of the first, if not the first, all-African American health clinics in the country. KCUR's Laura Ziegler has this remembrance.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.

Your support has always made KCUR's work possible — from reporting that keeps officials accountable, to storytelling to connects our community. Help ensure the future of local journalism.
