Conservative Commentator Featured on Kline's Website

By Frank Morris

Kansas City, MO – Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline this week featured a article by a conservative commentator front and center on office's website homepage. KCUR's Frank Morris reports.

The article, by Jack Cashill, paints Kline as the victim of a coordinated media assault and takes aim at his political rival, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison. The link to the story brought readers to World Net Daily, where ads for ads for stridently conservative books flash on both sides of the page. Mary Boyle is with the government watch dog group Common Cause.

Mary Boyle: "It appears very inappropriate to be using a district attorney website to bash a political opponent. The question is how is this serving the public interest."

Brian Burgess: "Any public official who's called into question about their abilities or ethics or anything like that, then they have the right to point out the facts, and this article does that."

Kline spokesman Brian Burgess, when contacted yesterday, said the article will soon move down on the homepage, and that the link to it will no longer direct readers to the right-wing website.
