Shawnee, Kansas – This summer, the Wonderscope Children's Museum in Shawnee hosted a traveling exhibit about Hmong culture for pre-school-aged children. The Hmong people are originally from southern China and Southeast Asia, but many moved to the United States to flee persecution during and after the Vietnamese War. Several thousand settled in the Kansas City area.
Wayne Yang founded the non-profit organization Hmong Village, which connects members of the Hmong community throughout the United States. He also teaches at Kansas City Kansas Community College and Park University and is researching contemporary Hmong culture for his PhD at KU.
