Kansas City, MO – The Charlotte Street Foundation celebrates the release of its Ten Year Anniversary Book on Tuesday, September 11, 6 - 8 pm, la Esquina, 1000 W. 25th Street, Kansas City, Missouri.

It started with an idea written on a napkin...to give money and recognition to artists and bring new appreciation to the arts community. Ten years later, the Charlotte Street Foundation has awarded more than $350,000 to 60 artists, and presents Third Friday art openings and performances in downtown gallery spaces as part of its Urban Culture Project. Artist and writer Peter von Ziegesar describes the organization as a parental figure.

Peter von Ziegesar: It's made young artists feel that they're appreciated and loved by their community and cared for...it's made artists want to write about each other's work and stay in Kansas City.

The Charlotte Street Foundation celebrates tonight with the release of the 10 year anniversary book with essays by von Ziegesar, Matt Wycoff, and founder and director David Hughes at la Esquina, an Urban Culture Project Space just off Southwest Boulevard. Laura Spencer, KCUR News.
