Kansas City, MO –

Lawyers for the Independence School District have been to state court to pave the way for taking over seven schools. They filed temporary restraining orders against the Kansas City district and the corporation that owns the buildings.

At latest report, there were still about 5500 KCP&L customers ... plus a few hundred served by other companies... without power from last night's storms.

The only child of former KC mayor H. Roe Bartle is hospitalized in critical condition. Jimmie Bartle Taylor is 83.

The eternal flame will continue to burn atop Liberty Memorial. Officials announced this morning that they have collected $63,500.
