Last fall, Kansas City author and illustrator Shane Evans teamed up with sculptor and photographer J. LeRoy Beasley to embark on a special mission: a month-long journey through four countries in Southern Africa: Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Along the way, the two artists visited orphanages, literacy programs and soccer clubs. There, they organized arts programs for children affected by HIV AIDs.By Susan B. Wilson

Kansas City, MO – Shane Evans and J. LeRoy Beasley have documented their trip in a photography exhibit called Africa Dream. The exhibit's opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at UMKC's University Center. KC Currents' Susan Wilson recently stopped by Shane Evans' Dream Studio to talk with them about the trip.

Their trip was funded by the Linda Leighton Foundation and the Kansas City Artist's Coalition.
