Kansas City, MO – Soni? Joi Ruffin uses brightly colored fabrics, including African kente and mud cloth, to make quilts that tell stories. Ruffin is a self-taught fabric artist who has been making quilts since she was a four-year-old girl growing up in Joplin, Mo.
KCUR's Susan B. Wilson met up with Ruffin and asked about the stories behind her Solo exhibit. The exhibit is a collection of 40 jazz-inspired quilts, including some celebrating Kansas City's historic 18th & Vine neighborhood, on display through August 2, 2009 at the American Jazz Museum's Changing Gallery.
