Walker's Review: The Kids are Alright

Arts Reporter Steve Walkers takes a look at new films showing in KC. The Kids Are All Right

Annette Bening delivers a thrilling, Oscar-worthy performance as the bread-winning half of a lesbian couple whose grip on their family grows slack when their teenage kids learn the identity of the sperm donor (a stellar Mark Ruffalo).

Writer/director Lisa Cholodenko has finessed a smart, moving and witty tale from this seemingly traditional look at a non-traditional family, and her cast - including Julianne Moore as the spacy, less ambitious half of the couple - rises to the challenge.

It seems so honest at times, you'll swear you're eavesdropping on your neighbors. - Steve Walker
