Walker's Three to See: Bill Cunningham New York

KCUR Arts Reporter Steve Walker shares his top movie pick of the week."Bill Cunningham New York" - Richard Press's superb, moving documentary chronicles the life of one of the most artistic yet unassuming men in America. Since the 1970s, Bill Cunningham has been the photographer for two features in The New York Times' Sunday Styles section: On the Street and Evening Hours. According to all-powerful Vogue editor Anna Wintour (who says "We all dress for Bill"), and the French Minister of Culture, (who recently inducted him into the Order of Arts and Letters), the man is a genius for the way he's captured the mercurial ebb-and-flow of fashion - specifically, how the street styles he shoots on the streets of Manhattan evolve into national fashion trends. In addition, the film explores his and his creative, elderly friends' cruel evictions from the historic Carnegie Hill apartments, and addresses how a man now in his eighties adapted to a family - and a world - that deemed an interest in fashion as something less than manly.
