Walker's Three to See: Hanna

KCUR Arts Reporter Steve Walker shares his top movie pick of the weekFrom director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice) comes a whole other kind of genre picture: the-teenage-assassin-pursued-by-the-evil-company-that-created-her movie. I walked out not sure if it was magnificent or a mess. And debating whether Cate Blanchett - playing a dead-eyed, cold-hearted killing machine whose mission is to eliminate the title character- was marvelous or dreadful. Still, the movie's a great deal of fun. Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) has been trained in deadly martial arts and schooled in multiple languages and encyclopedic knowledge by her assassin father (Eric Bana) and, when they have to separate from their cave-like compound near the Arctic Circle, the movie takes off like a bullet train. Even if it's all wildly preposterous, what works works very well, helped by a propulsive score by The Chemical Brothers.
