Full Train Service Resumes

By Marshall Griffin

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Amtrak says twice-per-day service between St. Louis and Kansas City will resume Wednesday.

For nearly a month, passenger rail serve was reduced to one round trip per day due to floodwaters forcing more freight traffic onto the Union Pacific track used by Amtrak.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says it's too soon to tell how the disruption affected ridership.

"We won't get the July ridership numbers until next month, but certainly we had fewer seats moving from place to place in the market," says Magliari.

Magliari says Amtrak has increased the size of the Missouri River Runner train and is using buses to help make up the difference during the service reduction.
