KANSAS CITY, Mo. – This summer's merciless heat wave is putting a strain on hospital emergency rooms all over Kansas.

The state is offering health insurance or cash payouts to certain employees, to urge them to retire. The offer is aimed at helping the state cut the employee rolls and save money.

Voters in the Center School Distrcit in South Kansas City approved an increase in the property tax levy.

Douglas County prosecutors say they won't retry a Kansas City man for the first-degree murder of a Lawrence hip-hop artist.

The Kansas City Royals dropped an 8-2 decision to the Baltimore Orioles last night at Kauffman Stadium.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
