School Lunch Changes Still In The Works
With more families depending on the National School Lunch Program to feed their children, school districts are gearing up to implement new nutrition guidelines being handed down by the federal government by early next year. But the revised rules — a requirement of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 — are expected to be a shadow of the Obama administration’s original intent. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s proposal was effectively blocked by Congress last month through an appropriations bill. Read more here.
Missouri Bill Seeks To Sue Feds Over Illegal Immigrants
Legislation to be considered by lawmakers next year would require Missouri’s Attorney General to sue the federal government to enforce federal immigration laws. The bill is sponsored by GOP Senator Will Kraus. He says whenever state or local authorities arrest someone who happens to be in the US illegally, the feds release that person about 60 percent of the time. Read more of the story here.
University of Missouri Curators Choose New President
The University of Missouri has chosen its next president and expects to announce its decision next week. Board of Curators chairman Warren Erdman says a search committee began with a pool of more than 100 candidates from academic and non-academic backgrounds alike. Read more of the story here.
