Missouri Lawmakers Look To Stem Transfers from KC Schools

Legislation that’s designed to stop a potential mass exodus of students from unaccredited schools in St. Louis and Kansas City to nearby suburban schools was heard Tuesday before a Missouri Senate committee.  The bill’s provisions include scholarships for kids in unaccredited public schools to attend private schools, and it would allow accredited schools to open charter schools in unaccredited districts.  Read the story from Jefferson City here.

Kansas City area Catholic school officials are backing the bill, looking for state support forKansasCity Public School students to be able to transfer to private or religious schools.  Find out more about that here.

Courts Hear Case Over Missouri Congressional Map

A state trial court is reviewing the constitutionality of Missouri's new congressional districts just weeks before candidates are scheduled to start filing for this year's elections.  The Missouri Supreme Court earlier this monthorderedfurther legal review of the congressional districts. Starlight And Kauffman Center Make Music Together

The idea that a Starlight Theatre production can only be seen in the summer is about to become obsolete. For the first time in its six decade history, Starlight travels outside of Swope Park to open the first of two musicals for children and their families this week at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.  Find out about the collaboration here.
