Once again, the music of Charlie "Bird" Parker echoed through Lincoln Cemetery, in the wooded hills of Blue Summit, Missouri, just outside the Kansas City city limits.

Kansas City, MO – Kansas City born saxophonist Charlie Parker would have turned 87 this week. He got his start locally playing with the Jay McShann band, and went on to gain international fame as one the architects of the bebop style of jazz. Every year local jazz fan gather at his grave to celebrate the memory of the artist known Bird. KCUR's Lee Ingalls attended this year's commemoration and prepared this report.
