Musician and artist Mark Southerland

Mark Southerland is an artist. His medium is the saxophone. He's been in bands with styles ranging from jazz to pop to freaky avant-garde stuff. But the biggest leap has been from musician who plays horns to artist who makes horns.

Kansas City, MO – With every passing year, it's harder to say whether Southerland is more musician or artist, composer or set designer. That journey began when he got a job repairing instruments for Hume Music. KCUR's Gina Kaufmann spoke with Mark Southerland for the latest installment in our series, Don't Quit Your Day Job.

Charlotte Street Foundation's Urban Culture Project presents Mark Southerland's Installation Operettas: Moon Bears + Sister Wives at la esquina, 1000 West 25th Street, KCMO, Oct. 23 & Nov. 6, 8 pm.
