Laura Spencer

KCUR

Denise Low was the second poet laureate of Kansas. She’s published 25 books of poetry and prose. She is co-publisher of Mammoth Publications, an independent small literary press specializing in Indigenous and Mid-Plains poetry and prose.

Her poems are rich with images of the prairie landscape, its people and history.

Denise Low's poetry blog has over 400 entries, and she reviews poetry for the Kansas City Star. Her book  Melange Block, from Red Mountain Press, Santa Fe, explores geological scales of elegies, celebrations, American Indian and European histories. She is a fifth-generation Kansan, of British Isles, German, and Delaware Indian ancestry.

All of our WORD readings, including bonus tracks by some poets, are archived on SoundCloud.

A free press is among our country’s founding principles and most precious resources. As director of content-journalism at KCUR, I want everyone in our part of America to know we see them and we’re listening. I work to make sure the stories we tell and the conversations we convene reflect our complex realities, informing and inspiring all of us to meet the profound challenges of our time. KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.

Our reporting will always be free for you to read. But it's not free to produce.

As a nonprofit, we rely on your donations to keep operating and trying new things. If you value our work, consider becoming a member.
