Manuel and Junior Vargas were born in Puerto Rico, and spent the first years of their lives listening to the rhythms of the Caribbean islands . . . merengue and rumba. But they discovered Tejano, or Tex-Mex, music when their family moved to Kansas City's West Side, and it became a passion. By Sylvia Maria Gross
Kansas City, MO – Manuel Vargas has since moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he and his band Grupo Badd are established in the Tejano scene. His brother Junior lives in Topeka and heads Grupo Picante. They?ll be performing together for the first time in 25 years at the Latino Summerfest in the Argentine District of Kansas City Kansas next Sunday night. But now, Junior Vargas joins us here in our studios at KCUR and Manuel Vargas is on the phone from his home in Corpus Christi.
