Kansas City, MO – For almost five years, Kansas City's housing program has been pretty much non-existent. The city's housing department used to work with an outside agency, the Housing and Economic Development Finance Corporation. But in 2004, a scandal involving HEDFC suggested a long history of mismanagement and waste and the agency's assets went into receivership. City Manager Wayne Cauthen then dissolved the city's housing department. In the most recent issue of The Pitch, reporter Nadia Pflaum looks into why the city still hasn't rebuilt its housing program, the story's titled Housing for Dummies: Six Ways the City has Wrecked A Vital Agency. Nadia told KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross what made her curious about housing in Kansas City.
