The 19 year old Johnson County Community College student missing since Friday, December 16th , has been found unharmed, five days after her disappearance from the University of Kansas-Edwards campus in Overland Park. Police say Aisha Khan had not been abducted.
Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass would not say where Khan had been, why she vanished or if she was with anyone. Police had committed search resources as if
it was an abduction although they would call it a case of a missing person. Fifty police and more volunteers had searched for miles around the 126th and Quivira Road campus and along Indian Creek. The F.B.I. had committed four agents.
Douglass said his officers had seen and spoken with Khan Wednesday afternoon and confirmed she had not been abducted. Douglass also said there was no further investigation and no crime had been committed.
Earlier in the day a cousin of the woman said she had been married to a Pakistani citizen last summer, a month after he had arrived in the U.S. and described it as an arranged but not a forced marriage. Khan and her husband shared an Olathe apartment with her sister and the sister's husband.
Khan's family had said Aisha and her husband Waseem had been planning to take a delayed honeymoon.
Police had said the husband had not been involved in her disappearance.
Cell phone messages from Aisha Khan to a sister the day she disappeared had described her fright at being harassed by a strange man on the Edwards campus and the full-scale police search had followed. Police said Khan had called and text-messaged a sister and a cousin six times in nine minutes but had not called 911.
