This snowstorm brought the added burden of power outages, so wet and heavy it tore down trees and lines. There was a heavier snow on the south side of the metro.
Being buried in snow without electricity is a hard one-two punch. There are some 30,000 customers of KCP&L alone in that situation.
The number was closer to 100,000 earlier in the day Tuesday.
Sixteen percent of the Louisburg area was still out late afternoon. Ten percent of South Kansas City had the same problem. Fifteen hundred were out in parts of Overland Park.
Nearly a thousand homes or businesses had outages in the Leavenworth area.
On the Missouri side, Corporal Kevin Tieman and Cass County deputies did an estimate of snowfall, at around 13 inches at Harrisonville, Mo. There was other work, said Tieman, "We did have to send our deputies and our four-wheel drives and Humvees to check on stranded motorists and actually transport some people back."
The Cass County Sheriff took military Humvees on loan for this kind of emergency.
