Missouri Has Lowest Gas Prices In U.S.; Kansas City Second Lowest In State
Missouri has the lowest average gasoline prices in the country at just $2.05 a gallon, according to AAA's daily fuel tracker.
On Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo., that average is even lower, at $1.97 a gallon.
The only city with lower prices in Missouri was Springfield, at $1.94 a gallon, according to AAA.
Lauren Garlic is in town for the holidays from New York. She said the price difference has added a little extra cash in her pocket for the holiday season.
"I definitely didn’t spend as much as I thought I would because gas is so cheap," Garlic said. "In New York, before I left in November, it was almost $4 a gallon."
Garlic was so impressed that she even took a photo of the gas pump to send to envious New York friends.
Gas prices likely will drop even further, but petroleum analysts have cautioned that lower crude oil costs could lead to oil companies cutting back production to make more money. And that would raise prices again.
