Waiting For The Blink: School Staredown Awaits Reasoned End

It has been more than a day of waiting with two metro area school districts at apparent stalemate over sending seven buildings from one district to the other.

After more than 24 hours of tension, the Independence district is still not allowed to take over the buildings. Voters ordered these schools moved to the Independence educational system. Both districts signed a pact in the Fall of 2007 to make the transfer, but then the value of the buildings became an issue.

Legal counsel representing the Independence School District and the legal counsel for the Kansas City school district have discussed the possibility of meeting on Saturday, July 5th at 10 a.m. in the Kansas City law offices of the Blackwell, Sanders law firm.Since it is a holiday weekend, there is hope that there will be an end to the fighting over the transfer of schools and the multi million dollar price. Otherwise, it will be taken care of in the courts.
