Science Stands Up

http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/kcur/local-kcur-915125.mp3

In the Republican primary for Kansas Board of Education, an advocate of teaching creationism in science classes, John Bacon, faces a challenger Dennis George, in the district that includes southern Johnson County, and points south. No Democrats have filed for the general election, so the primary will determine the winner.

Kansas continues to be a battle field in the conflict over what some see as the politicization of science. Ken Miller, a biology professor at Brown University has become prominent player in that fight. He argues that science doesn't mix well with religion or politics, but Miller tells KCUR's Frank Morris that his position is losing ground.

KCUR serves the Kansas City region with breaking news and powerful storytelling.
