Kansas City, MO – Metropolitan planning gets a 4.2 million dollar assist from a grant announced yesterday by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Kansas City area's Creating Sustainable Places proposal was coordinated by the Mid-America Regional Council, where Jody Ladd Craig explained what the program will do.

Craig said the goal is to see to it that places that are already centers of activity within the region are connected by good transportation along vibrant corridors. and that future development connects to other corridors and other activity centers around the region in a way that makes sense.

She believes the study will result in fewer stand-alone business parks and shopping centers and more development that integrates work, shopping, housing and schools.
