KANSAS CITY, MO. – Judges in Platte and Cass Counties this afternoon have been asked to order a Kansas City Zoo tax issue put on the November ballot.
Commissioners in the two suburban counties opted not to vote to honor initiative petitions to set a Fall vote on the one-eighth-cent sales tax.
Platte County's Presiding Commissioner Jason Brown was quoted earlier, saying another tax would be a burden on residents.
Chair of the of campaign, Chuck Caisley said this afternoon, they seek a declaratory judgment for a November vote--" we want to clarify that we have the right idea about the law, and just honor those citizens who signed petitions and see if we can't get the issue voted on."
Timing is important, says Caisley to set the tax issue on a ballot this year. Without judges' approval, the vote would have to be in the Spring or not at all.
