The Elvis '68 Comeback Special

With The King's career on a steady decline since his last U.S. #1 single in 1962, many thought his reign was effectively over. But then...he came back in a 1968 NBC television special.

The show was the highest-rated special of the year.

The intimate performance, during which Elvis and his bandmates talk in between song and play old blues and gospel, is widely credited with revitalizing his career.

After the special, Elvis went on to his stint in Vegas and even returned to #1 on the charts with 1969's "Suspicious Minds."
