Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has a new title — father.
The 36-year-old announced the birth of his son in a Facebook post, marking a new chapter in the life of the law professor and former city council member. The proud dad shared a few precious details about his son on social media. His name is Bennett and he's already a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Lucas is just shy of two years into his term as mayor. One of the city’s youngest mayors, he’s already captured national attention for speaking out about voting access and advocating for the role of local governments in responding to the pandemic. Recently, he’s flirted with a run for U.S. Senate.
Katherine Carttar is the mom, she heads economic development for the Unified Government Of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County. The pair were married earlier this month.
"Like many over the past challenging year, we spent time reprioritizing what’s most important in our lives and realized it is family," Lucas wrote on Facebook. "We are proud to announce the birth of our son."
Lucas hinted at the news on Twitter last week, simply saying, “Just thinking about tomorrow.”
He asked his followers for prayers Friday afternoon and thanked the medical professionals at KU hospitals.
Appreciate the high risk pregnancy folks at @KUHospital . A few challenges this week/today. Pray for us!
