Seg. 1: Kansas Education Plan | Seg. 2: KCMO's Green Framework

Segment 1: An update on the Kansas Board of Regents' strategic 10-year plan for higher education which wraps next year.

Foresight 2020 has three goals for public universities in the Sunflower State but low unemployment and rising tuition have fewer Kansans seeking a college diploma. The president of the Board of Regents was asked about the plan's progress especially in meeting the state's workforce demand.

Segment 2, beginning at 27:34: Keeping Kansas City parks and boulevards viable into the next century.

The initial design of Kansas City's parks and boulevards served a practical function in addition to offering scenic connections throughout the city. A former director of Kansas City Parks and Recreation explained the environmental impact these landscapes have on Kansas Citians and the value in maintaining these green spaces.

Leon Younger will discuss "KC's Parks and Boulevards: The Next 125 Years" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Kansas City Public Library 14 West 10th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64105. RSVP  at kclibrary.org.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
