Thousands still without power after storms hit Kansas City metro
Evergy reports more than 180,000 customers lost power Friday. As of Saturday night, two-thirds of those customers had powered restored. Cities in the area have reported downed trees and tree limbs.
Peak electricity rates will nearly quadruple under default Evergy plans in Missouri
Variable rate time-of-use pricing will soon be inescapable for Evergy customers in Missouri. In one billing plan, the top rate will be roughly four times as expensive as the base rate, forcing consumers to pay close attention to the way they buy and use electricity.

Brands are loving Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement. Do they need to calm down?
Companies from Pillsbury to Invisalign to Olipop are cheering — and trying to cash in on — the couple's engagement. It's especially visible around Kansas City, which has embraced the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance.
Políticas migratorias afectaron escuelas del medio oeste previo a las redadas de restaurantes

Missouri secretary of state sued over 'deceptive' summaries for public education ballot measures
One ballot campaign hopes to amend the Missouri constitution to declare education a “fundamental right.” The other would prohibit most public funding of nonpublic schools, including charters. Both accuse the state's top election official, Denny Hoskins, of trying to mislead voters.
Missouri governor begins redistricting process after Trump pressure. Kansas City is the target
President Trump has been pressuring Gov. Mike Kehoe to call a special session for mid-decade redistricting. Republican lawmakers hope to gerrymander congressional lines around Kansas City, diluting Democratic voting power and making it harder for Rep. Emanuel Cleaver to win in the 2026 midterms.
Kansas City workers plan to protest Republican efforts to gerrymander Missouri
A protest, led by organized labor in Missouri, is set for Monday at noon on the Plaza. They say the redistricting effort — which would carve up Rep. Emanuel Cleaver's Kansas City district — violates the Missouri Constitution.
A Missouri kindergartner needed eye surgery. It took a politician's nudge for insurance to pay
With no pediatric ophthalmologists in network near their home in Wentzville, Missouri, Keyanna Jones asked United Healthcare to cover her daughter's eye surgery with an out-of-network specialist. The insurer agreed — and then sent them a bill for $13,000.
