U.N. Peacekeeper Ken Payumo

In 2014, in South Sudan, Ken Payumo faced an angry government official and soldiers demanding access to the 12,000 civilians taking refuge from the civil war in the United Nations compound behind him. He tells Steve Kraske of the incredible step he took to save their lives while endangering his own.

  • Ken Payumo is the chief of peacekeeping operations for the U.N. Department of Safety and Security.

Ken Payumo will deliver the keynote address at the U.N. Peacekeepers Roundtable at 11 a.m. on September 19 at the Kansas City Chamber's Boardroom in Union Station. Register for the event here.

Up To Date soup
When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
