Since KCUR's Bill Shapiro began hosting Cyprus Avenue in October of 1978, the program has aired on over 50 stations across the country.

Segment 1: Understanding who's who in the upcoming trial of Missouri Governor Eric Greitens.

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens will stand trial on Monday for a felony charge of invasion of privacy. In the courtroom overseen by Judge Rex Burlison will be more than just prosecutor Kim Gardner and defense lawyer Edward Dowd.  Each will lead a team of powerhouse attorneys so there are a lot of names in the lineup. To help us make sense of them all, we ran down the rosters with two reporters familiar with the players involved.

Segment 2 beginning at 12:04: Host Bill Shapiro discusses four decades of 'Cyprus Avenue.'

After forty years, Cyprus Avenue aired its final episode last week. Host Bill Shapiro was, for many listeners, a fixture of KCUR's weekend programming as he shared music from artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen and Alicia Keys. To celebrate his career, we heard a conversation between Shapiro, Ron Jones, and Up to Date host Steve Kraske.

40th Anniversary Celebration: A Tribute to Bill Shapiro will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11 at The Folly Theater, 300 W. 12th St., Kansas City, Missouri  64105. For more information, visit FollyTheater.org.

As a host and contributor at KCUR, I seek to create a more informed citizenry and richer community. I want to enlighten and inspire our audience by delivering the information they need with accuracy and urgency, clarifying what’s complicated and teasing out the complexities of what seems simple. I work to craft conversations that reveal realities in our midst and model civil discourse in a divided world. Follow me on Twitter @ptsbrian or email me at brian@kcur.org.
