Seg. 1: Vaping And Health | Seg. 2: Is Facebook Good?

Segment 1: Educators see more vaping in schools, and researchers are beginning to understand how e-cigarettes affect lungs

Whether people turn to e-cigarettes as an aid to quit smoking or because they think it's a safer alternative to traditional smokes, mounting evidence suggests vaping's detrimental health effects could be substantial. As vaping becomes more popular among young people, it's an issue educators are having to face in schools.

Segment 2, beginning at 31:00: Is Facebook a force for good in the world?

With more than 2 billion users, there's no doubting that Facebook has connected people across social groups and the world. But data breaches, privacy concerns and censorship questions suggest the net effect of the social media site may not be positive.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
As culture editor, I oversee KCUR’s coverage of race, culture, the arts, food and sports.
