Seg. 1: Behind Apollo 11 | Seg. 2: High-Altitude Art

Segment 1: A NASA Hall-of-Famer discusses the Apollo 11 mission.

Five decades after witnessing the first man step on the moon, Lynn Bondurant shared his deep knowledge of the monumental mission to explain what it took to fly three men the 238,900 miles to Earth's most notable satellite — and back!

Segment 2, beginning at 32:20: Art by way of wind, balloon and camera.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, that floating object in the sky could just be the latest project from a Kansas City artist with a fascination for not having complete control over his creative endeavors. This has led him to launching weather balloons with a video camera attached into the atmosphere. He explained how he turns the captured images into art.

Lynn Bondurant will present "The Legacy of Apollo 11: 50 Years and Still Counting" at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 at Union Station's Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre, 30 W. Pershing Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64108. For more information, go to UnionStation.org.

Benjamin Todd Wills will launch Pissarro III at noon on Saturday, July 20, from the rooftop terrace of Kansas City Public Library's central location, 14 W. 10th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64105. RSVP at KCLibrary.org.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities.
