President Trump has tried to kill Food for Peace – the nation’s leading international food aid program. Farm state legislators restarted it at the USDA, and pending legislation would keep it there permanently. But experts worry about the fate of food aid at an agency with no humanitarian mandate.

The federal government has not reimbursed K-State for about $1 million in expenses related to its work on global food security. The cuts also affect hundreds of students abroad who were recruited to advance agriculture in their countries.

Although it's now on hold, The Trump Administration's move to stop foreign food aid shut off a market that farmers have relied on for 70 years. It has triggered a Republican push to resurrect the "Food for Peace" program.
