From Poetry To History

It's not often a state poet laureate turns her pen to write a non-fiction tale, but Kansas Poet Laureate Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg has done just that.

In the second part of Friday's Up to Date, she joins us to talk about Needle in the Bone, a true story of a Holocaust survivor and a Polish resistance fighter who lost nearly everything and everyone they knew in the war and met years later at the University of Kansas.

HEAR MORE: Kansas Poet Laureate Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg will discuss her new book Needle in the Bone  at 6:30 Thursday evening, Jan. 31 at the Plaza branch of the Kansas City Public Library. Click here for more information.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
