Missouri Arts Awards Announced

By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – The Missouri Arts Council, the state's grant-making agency for the arts, recently announced the winners of the state's highest honor in the arts.

Two of the recipients of the 2008 Missouri Arts Awards have ties to Kansas City, including Marc Wilson, the Director and CEO of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for Arts Leadership; and Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey for Arts Education.

Rockhurst University's Center for Arts and Letters Director Cynthia Cartwright is the chair of the Arts Awards selection committee.

Cynthia Cartwright: "I shouldn't be amazed but I always am just overwhelmingly amazed by the number of things that people are doing and the creativity that exists in every corner of this state."

Since 1983, the Missouri Arts Awards have recognized individuals and institutions for contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Jefferson City on February 13th.
