American Century Investments announced 270 job cuts today. Most will be in the Kansas City area where 1400 of the company's 1600 employees work.

About 50 Kansas City Star employees lose their jobs in the latest round of cuts, including Lee Judge, Kit Wagar, Laura Scott and Hearne Christopher.

Harold's Stores has filed for bankruptcy protection and will close the Plaza and Town Center Plaza stores.

Dillard's announces more store and distribution center closings, but does not answer whether its remaining four Kansas City operations are affected.

Amid more charges of BPU corruption, Mayor Joe Reardon appoints a former GM executive to investigate business practices at the public utility.

Defunded, but not defeated.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
